author L. Loverly on her journey as a children's
her face book fan page
All of the
illustrations are done using Adobe Photoshop
and Corel Painter and drawn with using a digital
Wacom tablet. The camera used for the photos
was an Olympus E-20 SLR. L. Loverly is self-taught.
Lovely’s kids were little she enjoyed
seeing the Blue Clues series on T.V. with
here kids with the real person (Steve) combined
with the cartoon illustrations. That show
was the inspiration for her pages.
reading a lot of books to her kids when they
were little she realized that there were some
illustrations that were perfect in books but
the kids hated them and they ended up in the
trash can and then there were others that
had horrible illustrations but the kids loved
those books anyway! So she decided to give
it try, since she has been a good doodler
for years, and see what she could come up
with for her own book since her initial plans
were to self publish. Luckily, the Tate Publishing
allowed her to use her own work, which made
her, wade and April very happy!
April modeled for several hundred photos for
“What Shall I Pretend To Be Today?”
They had no idea what each page or book would
look like before they started modeling for
book 1 but by book 3 they became very good
at it so they had to pose for less and less
photos. Still they worked very hard putting
up with their mother and her project and she
was very happy to have worked with them.
down side and sad part about the illustrations
combined with photos is that Wade and April
have totally grown up and will not be available
for book 4 as we call it. By then L. Loverly
may have to find new models or go to character
drawings. She and Tate Publishing have decided
to cross that bridge when it comes but for
now there are three books with the photos
of Wade and April and illustration combination.
These may just end up as collector’s
items! Hint! Hint!
